A rollicking Technicolor tale of the legendary English outlaw, ROBIN HOOD is regarded as one of the great Hollywood adventure films. About the Score. Erich Wolfgang Korngold, a prominent early film composer in Hollywood alongside Max Steiner and Alfred Newman, initially expressed reservations when he was first invited to compose the score for this groundbreaking adventure film. Unable to return to Austria due to the rise of the Nazism and the onset of World War II, Korngold seized the opportunity to score ROBIN HOOD as a means of securing his stay in America, a decision he later remarked had saved his life. His vibrant score infused the film with a rich complexity, characterized by romantic harmonies, lush instrumental textures, and passionate climaxes. ROBIN HOOD serves as a quintessential example of Korngold's view that his film compositions were "operas without singing." For his work on this film, Korngold earned an Academy Award for Best Original Score and laid the groundwork for a symphonic style that would later influence John Williams in his scores for Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
